Hotel Stays: Moxy Edinburgh
When it comes to airport hotels, expectations can be low—just a bed, four walls, and perhaps the convenience of a shuttle.
But the Moxy Edinburgh Airport manages to add a bit of personality to the usual airport hotel formula, making it more than just a place to rest your head before an early flight.
Whether you’re here for business or simply racking up Marriott Bonvoy points, this hotel has plenty of features to make your stay comfortable (and even a little fun).
It’s worth noting that this review is for Moxy Edinburgh Airport, which is a different property from Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge. Both are part of the Moxy chain, but they offer distinct experiences and locations, so make sure you book the right one for your needs.
Location, Location, Location
The most obvious perk of staying at the Moxy Edinburgh Airport is, well, its proximity to the airport. You can walk to the departures terminal in about 5-10 minutes. No need to worry about a shuttle or calling a cab unless you’ve overpacked or it’s pouring down rain.
A quick stroll across the street—mind the traffic at the roundabout—and you’re on your way.
For those who want to explore Edinburgh, the tram station at the terminal offers easy access to the city center, dropping you off at Princes Street after a 30-minute ride for just £9.50 one-way.
Room Essentials (And a Few Oddities)
The rooms at Moxy are…fine. They offer everything you need for a short stay—comfortable beds, instant coffee with a kettle, and basic amenities to freshen up after a long flight. If you’re flying solo, it’s the perfect setup.
But here’s the odd part: you can’t adjust the temperature in your room. There’s even a little sign atop the thermostat letting you know that the hotel controls the climate. If you enjoy a chilly room, you’re advised to open the window—an interesting suggestion when it’s below zero outside!
So, yes, I did sleep with my coat on top of the comforter. That quirk aside, the beds were comfy, and I still managed to get a good night’s sleep.
Business Travelers, Rejoice
If you’re here on business, Moxy has you covered. The ground floor has a solid mix of functional and social spaces.
The business center is particularly well-equipped, with a printer, group workspaces, and even private phone booths for taking calls without the hum of background chatter.
It’s a great spot to hunker down and get some work done, whether you’re traveling alone or with coworkers.
Dog-Friendly Perks
Traveling with your four-legged friend? Moxy Edinburgh Airport has you covered with its dog-friendly policies. Not only does the hotel welcome pets, but they also provide pet amenities to make sure your furry companion feels at home. There’s plenty of space for your dog to stretch its legs, both indoors and out.
The casual, laid-back vibe of the lobby and common areas means your pet won’t feel out of place, and there’s easy access to nearby walking routes for those quick bathroom breaks before your flight.
Fitness, Whisky, and Breakfast Basics
Looking to burn off some travel stress? There’s a fitness center, though it’s fairly basic. Only one treadmill—I’m glad I was early and the only one there!—and a few other cardio machines and some weights.
The onsite restaurant and bar offer a decent selection of food and drinks, with a particular highlight being the bar’s large whisky collection—perfect for a nightcap.
There’s even a “whisky of the day” feature if you’re feeling adventurous.
Breakfast isn’t included, but you can opt for the buffet (running from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.), and it covers the essentials.
Final Verdict
For an airport hotel, the Moxy Edinburgh Airport is surprisingly enjoyable. It’s not a party hotel, but it’s got enough flair to keep things lively.
If you can overlook the temperature control issue, the location, amenities, and fun vibe make it a solid choice for anyone passing through Edinburgh. Plus, the fact that you can walk to the airport is a game-changer.
I would definitely stay here again if I had a super early morning flight out of Edinburgh (a common occurence if you’re flying back to the U.S. and have a connection on the continent, such as Paris or Amsterdam.)
