The Most Pet Friendly Hotels in New York City

Traveling with pets has never been easier thanks to a growing number of pet-friendly hotels that cater to your furry companions as much as they do to you. From luxurious pet amenities like plush dog beds and room service pet menus to convenient pet-walking services and dedicated play areas, these hotels ensure that your pets are pampered and comfortable throughout your stay.

Dash and I have stayed at all of the following establishments and can vouch each one is as friendly (if not more friendly) to dogs as they are to human guests. That said, each hotel has different policies, so it’s good to check with the hotel website (and perhaps email the reservation desk) for any related fees, weight restrictions, etc. Just because they’re pet friendly doesn’t mean they don’t charge a pet fee.

That said, Dash travels with me as a psychiatric service animal as I have a neurodevelopmental condition. Within the United States under the ADA, service animals can stay free at any hotel, without exception. There is a similar policy in Canada under the ACA. Mexico does have a comparable policy, but it doesn’t extend this guarantee. While most hotels I’ve visited are dog friendly, occasionally there are a few resorts that don’t even allow service animals, so you need to double check before booking.

For service animal owners, note that the hotel is allowed to ask you two questions (more info here), and they may ask to see a rabies vaccine certificate. It’s always easier to contact the reservations desk ahead of arrival and give them a heads up so you can have a smooth check-in experience.

Aman New York

Aman New York welcomes dogs with a focus on comfort and luxury. The hotel allows up to two dogs, each weighing up to 50 pounds, for an additional fee of $350 per stay. Pet-friendly accommodations include plush beds and amenities tailored to ensure a relaxing experience for canine companions. While dogs are warmly welcomed, cats are not permitted.

Kimpton Hotel Theta

I’ve stayed at other Kimpton hotels around the country, so I knew they’d be prepared for Dash, but it was still nice to see how pet-friendly they are. The hotel will provide you with bowls, treats, and even a dog bed. And not only are there no fees, but they don’t limit the number of pets or restrict sizes, which is a rarity in the city.

This hotel also partners with WAG! Premium, so if you need someone to watch or walk your pet while you explore the city, you can easily set that up.

And if you need something specific for your pet, you can call Housekeeping, and they’re pretty quick to bring it up. We didn’t see a water bowl at first, so I called down, and they brought one right up, which was collapsible and perfect for travel. It’s those little thoughtful details that really make a difference.

Mandarin Oriental, New York

Layout-wise, this is a very spacious suite for a couple or a small family. It was also delightful for Dash, who had both lots of room to run around and plenty of surfaces to nap on.

The hotel provided a piped velvet dog bed with a matching chew toy (the latter of which he could take home as a gift) and porcelain bowls for food and water. The porter also offered floor pads, but Dash is extremely well-trained, so I just held onto those for future use in case of travel (good to have in airports, etc.).

Dogs are welcome at the MO New York, although non-service animals are subject to a $250 nonrefundable fee for deep cleaning the room after your stay, so keep that in mind when budgeting your booking.

The Mark Hotel in New York City really goes all out for pets, going so far as to set up a tented bed for your dog that looks straight out of an LL Bean catalog. And there’s an exclusive room service menu for pets that honestly looks as delectable for humans to eat, too. The hotel welcomes pets up to 25 pounds, charging a $100 fee per stay. Situated just a block away from Central Park, one of the city’s most famous and pet-friendly spaces, guests can take advantage of the extensive walking trails and dog-friendly areas within the park.

The Plaza Hotel

If you’ve ever dreamed of living like Eloise…well, maybe your dog can here. Dogs are treated like royalty here with velvet dog beds and gourmet treats. They’re even welcome for tea service in the Palm Court. (The chef made dried sweet potato treats for Dash.) They also have Plaza-branded leashes and collars on hand. The hotel welcomes pets up to 20 pounds, with a $250 non-refundable fee per stay. And the Plaza is just across the street from Central Park, with immediate access to dog-friendly walking paths and plenty of open spaces. (Just note some of the lawns in the park, like Sheep Meadow, are not open to dogs.)

The Rockaway Hotel + Spa

An excellent choice for a weekend getaway within the city or your best bet for an airport hotel outside of the actual airport, the Rockaway Hotel + Spa permits pets with no specific weight restrictions, charging a $150 fee per stay. Located near Rockaway Beach, guests can enjoy long walks along the boardwalk and beach area, where pets are welcome during certain hours.
