Hotel Stays: Scribner's Catskill Lodge
Just a quick two-hour drive north of New York City, Scribner’s Lodge in the Catskill Mountains is the kind of place that makes you want to unplug and unwind.
With direct views of Hunter Mountain, cozy accommodations, and thoughtful touches everywhere you look, it’s the perfect escape for a weekend getaway—whether you’re traveling with friends, family, your significant other, or even your dog.
First Impressions
As soon as you arrive, it’s hard not to feel relaxed. The property is big, with plenty of open space to explore and some seriously stunning views of Hunter Mountain.
The main lodge is beautifully designed—spacious enough to hold a lot of people, but it still manages to feel cozy and intimate.
The living room inside the lodge is one of those spots you just want to hang out in for hours. There are books and board games, comfy seating, and huge windows that let in lots of natural light.
Outside, there’s a deck with Adirondack chairs that are perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or catching the sunset.
And speaking of coffee, there’s free coffee in the lobby, complete with dairy and oat milk. Little details like that make you feel like they really thought about what guests might want.
Eating and Drinking at Prospect
Prospect, the lodge’s onsite restaurant, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner—and it’s good.
The menu leans into locally inspired flavors, and the full cocktail bar is a bonus. I have to give a special shoutout to the espresso martini—it was fantastic.
If you’re into wine, the list is solid (especially by the bottle), but I do wish there were more options by the glass.
Overall, the food and drinks make it easy to stay put and enjoy all your meals without having to leave the property.
Staying in The Rounds
We stayed in The Rounds, which are these chic, circular tiny homes that kind of feel like luxury yurts.
They’re super comfortable and come with everything you need—Wi-Fi, a fridge, a kettle for tea or instant coffee, and an HDTV with streaming options like Netflix and Hulu.
The electric fireplace added a cozy touch, and there’s AC if you’re visiting in the summer.
The best part? The Japanese soaking tub on the private deck. Filling it takes a little patience (30 to 45 minutes), but it’s totally worth it. Soaking at night feels calming, but honestly, I loved the views in the morning even more.
Inside, the space is smartly designed. There’s a little reading nook in the corner that I absolutely fell in love with—I could’ve spent hours there if we had a longer stay.
The bathroom is a bit snug, thanks to the round shape of the structure, but the shower itself is roomy and the provided toiletries are really nice.
There were plenty of towels and robes, but no extras like cotton swabs, so pack those if you’ll need them.
Things to Do
Scribner’s doesn’t have a gym, but there’s a yoga studio with occasional classes, and the outdoor sauna is a fun touch. You can reserve a time slot at the front desk if you want to try it out.
In the winter, they set up an ice-skating rink, and if you’re into skiing, Hunter Mountain is just across the street.
If you’re more of a summer or fall person, there’s plenty of outdoor space to roam around and soak up the fresh mountain air.
Dog-Friendly Perks
One of my favorite things about Scribner’s is how dog-friendly it is.
Our dog, Dash, got the VIP treatment with Bocce Bakery treats and a plush toy shaped like a maple syrup jug waiting in our room.
They also provide food and water bowls and waste bags.
Dogs are welcome in the lounge and have tons of space to run around outside, so it’s a great spot for pet parents.
Final Verdict
Scribner’s Lodge is one of those places that feels like it’s made for relaxing. Between the gorgeous views, comfy accommodations, and little details that make your stay feel special, it’s an easy pick for a weekend away.
Whether you’re here for summer hikes, fall foliage, winter skiing, or just some time to slow down, you’ll leave feeling refreshed—and maybe even a little sad to go.
